Cedar Grove Education & Care was formed in September of 1976. A committee was appointed by the church to find out if there was a need for a Christian childcare. Indeed there was a need and a childcare was begun by founder and director, Mrs. Gerrie Roberts. She was the wife of Pastor Jim Roberts. At the time there were four teachers: Mrs. Gerrie, Mrs. Leisa Dean, Mrs. Linda Ellison, and Mrs. Gloria Thompson.
All the teachers were fulfilling the call to the ministry of this childcare. Since that time more teachers were added and some teachers have moved on. On July 4, 2001, the church burned due to a lightning storm and the childcare was moved to the Family Life Center. We used partitions to separate the classes in the gym. Our new building was built and we moved in on September 1, 2004.
This building was indeed a blessing to our childcare. Furnishings were donated by the late Evelyn Crawford and are greatly appreciated. The directors at this time were Mrs. Linda Ellison and Mrs. Gloria Thompson. After Mrs. Linda retired, Mrs. Danece Whitley became Co-Director. Mrs. Danece Moved to another state in the fall of 2013, and Miss Lethia Smith became Co- Director.
In the fall of 2014 Mrs. Gloria retired. Currently Miss Lethia Smith is the director and Ms. Mary Greer is the Assistant Director.
